Question: Are kids today that much better than when you were a kid, Mr. PGA Tour Player? Answer: No, by and large the best kids today are playing at the same high level I was playing at when I was a younger. What has changed is the unbelievable number of them that are playing at the highest level! Question: So with the number of available scholarships remaining virtually unchanged for years, what will make the difference between playing at the next level or not? Answer: The ones who pay attention to the details of all around wellness. These kids need to be in touch with a PGA teaching professional who can help them develop. They also need to incorporate fitness and nutrition into their training. Knowing how to train and how to get the proper nourishment before, during and after a round is crucial to a young person’s success. Not only that, settling down the thoughts that occupy a young person’s mind can mean the difference in numerous strokes off their scores. Being able to settle down after a bad shot is imperative and there is no one out there on the course who can do that for them, they need to be able to do that themselves. Question: So, it sounds like having a junior golf wellness center that brings all these attributes into one convenient location can make a huge difference for young golfers along their journey, correct? Answer: There were some friends of mine growing up that I think if they had the resources that a wellness center provides, their futures could have been altogether different. Who knows? Paying attention to these details may or may not mean playing at the next level, but if the end result is playing better, then regardless of the outcome, he or she will definitely enjoy the game all the more and that’s what we’re trying to do is get more people playing the game and enjoying the game for a lifetime.
